The Road Less Traveled

Vacations are meant to enable us to get away from all the hustle and bustle of a busy life. A trip to an exotic place or a memorable location is supposed to be enjoyable and relaxing. However, the reality is that many vacations are enjoyable and relaxing. In fact, at times a vacation can be just as bad as driving in rush hour traffic or having a bad day at work because there are simply just too many people.

Deals offered as vacation packages are always less expensive, but the locations in the vacation packages often attract everyone from everywhere. Standing in lines can become a common practice at many of these locations. Finding a trip that is not on the beaten path can take a little work, but it will be a lot more rewarding in the end.

Package deals aren’t all bad, but to find some more of the secluded locations, you need to plan a little more. Instead of allowing the tour companies to decide where you should go, do a little research on your own. Ask your well traveled friends if they’ve been to the area and if they have any recommendations on where you should go.

Avoiding package deals can be an alternative route to avoiding the crowds. Planning your own trip may take a little more time, but while you are planning you may be able to enjoy a little escape while determining where to go. If you know where you want to go you can set up your own watch on flight prices and hotel costs, and then purchase it when there is a really good offer.

If you are trying to decide where to go, following your interests can lead you to some undiscovered or at least little known locations that will provide the most memorable moments. For example, if you are interested in ancient architectural beauty, Egypt and Asia can be a good location, but South America may be even better. Let your interests be your guide and seek out every opportunity there is to explore the world.

Finding those perfect vacation spots will give you those fascinating experiences to share and you will be the first person your friends will come to when they are planning a vacation. So don’t let your vacation make you want to escape. Dream a little more and dream big.

Spending time off in a line or with way too many people is not at the top of anyone’s vacation list. Finding ways to avoid the busyness of tourist attractions can help to make travel great. If you are traveling at peak season and to heavy tourist areas, you may want to try and break your day’s travels into shifts.

Having a list of hours of operation for every attraction you want to visit will help you avoid the rush. Some attractions you may want to visit without entering a door. For example, visiting a place to look at architecture may only require you to visit from the outside. Visiting these attractions when their doors are closed can help to avoid large numbers of people.

Going to attractions early in the morning will allow you a little more time with a little less rush because many people would rather sleep in. When the lines begin to get long, take a break and go to lunch and then go back to your hotel and take a nap. If you don’t want to take a nap, take advantage of the hotel amenities; go swimming, catch a tan, and relax.

Later on in the afternoon you can journey out again. The majority of the crowds will be heading back to their hotels, worn out, and not ready to stand in any more lines. You will probably find the lines to be much shorter and you can finish up your day’s adventures. If there are still lines at least you’ll be refreshed.

If your time is worth more than your money, some attractions will allow you in earlier than normal hours at a premium price. Other attractions may have an evening opening at an additional cost. Whichever method you choose, plan well and your trip will be enjoyable and stress-free.
